Aloha Everyone,

 

This was among my grandfathers papers

He was a guest aboard His Imperial Japanese Majesty's Ship ASAMA, veteran of the Russo-Japanese war, in New York harbor two weeks before the stock market crash in 1929.

 

Check out the name of the host - Vice-Admiral K. Nomura

 

He became the Japanese ambassador to Washington in December 1941 who delivered the 'dastardly' message to Cordell Hull too late.....

Very nice,..these type of formal invitations and calling cards from the era are an interesting area of collecting.

Salvage, That's a fantastic family-connection piece.

Here's a photo of Asama making a visit to New Zealand in the 1920's.
