Dogsbody Posted December 9, 2018 Share #1 Posted December 9, 2018 I still have to do a little research about the Deutsche Arbeitsfront but from what I understand so far it was an alternative (nazi) trade union as opposed to the regular existing unions. It was led by Robert Ley who saw it as a means to establish a true social and productive society. This organisation was established in 1933 and its stance was anti-capitalism and anti-liberalism. Although membership was voluntary, members were to find jobs much more easier than non-members. . Rene

S.ChrisKelly Posted July 29, 2023 Share #10 Posted July 29, 2023 A Mitgliedskarte [membership card] to Amanda Hoch, born 30 July 1904, employed at Raves & Company at Königsallee 46 in Düsseldorf, an area known for clothing manufacturers/retailers. The card is stamped, "Buch durch Feindeinwirkung vernichtet," which translates to "Book lost through enemy action." Düsseldorf was intensively bombed during the war, with as much as 90% of its infrastructure heavily damaged/destroyed. This membership card was started on 24 November 1943 and shows membership in good standing from August 1943 until January 1945. The membership revenue stamps [beitragsmarke] are all the 3rd/final issue. S.ChrisKelly Posted July 31, 2023 Share #13 Posted July 31, 2023 For reference... This book is in the German language. A translation of the web-site's synopsis follows. ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆ After Knut Brockmöller had written a study on the FDGB (Free German Trade Union Federation of the GDR), his brother Jens Brockmöller has now also published a comprehensive study on the DAF [German Labor Front], which was also published by the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Fiskalphilatelie e.V. As exciting as the topic is, it also shows in a depressing way how the DAF, as an instrument of conformity, affected all areas of life of the population at that time in order to achieve the National Socialist goals. This handbook is about the presentation of contemporary history through philately. The subjugation of the trade unions led to a flood of likely unknown [dues/revenue] stamp issues, which document the takeover of each individual union by the DAF and which had gradually made their way into the union books, until these were then completely replaced by the red DAF books and the general dues/revenue stamp issues were replaced. It seems obvious that these stamps and books are cataloged and listed, but here, too, new territory is explored with the overprints, not only the occupation issues in Luxembourg, but also the foreign covers from Africa. The chapters which include the organization "Strength through Joy" and the educational work of the DAF are presented chronologically, and are really historically significant. Whether physical exercise, leisure time or travel - pay attention to the classification rates for membership. The savings stamps and above all the savings stamp for the VW Beetle ["KdF-Wagen"], which was used to finance the development of the Volkswagen factory, bring contemporary history to life. In short, a successful, very extensive compilation wherein, in addition to the individual stamps, documents are also given special importance. Reference is made to the previous work by Martin Erler, which only hinted at what was not known at the time, and [it] omitted the issues which could not be further verified and researched. Admittedly, this handbook can only be a snapshot of time, and many unknown and unexplored things are just waiting to be discovered. Note: The included illustrations of items from the Third Reich only serve the purposes of civic education, research, art and science, reporting on current events, history (§§ 86a, 86 Penal Code) The first edition of the manual was published in April 2016 and can be obtained from ArGe Fiskalphilatelie e.V. ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆ Source: https://www.fiskalphilatelie.de/literaturangebote/113-neuerscheinung-die-beitrags-spenden-spar-und-sonstigen-wertmarken-der-deutschen-arbeitsfront-daf.html ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
