Was wounded on Sept 3rd 1916 at the Battle of Guillemont, died of his wounds Sept 9, 1916. Service: British Army Corps/Regiment: Leinster Regiment Service No.: 2167 Award: Distinguished Conduct Medal (DCM) Date Of Action: 19/08/1916 Citation: 2767 Sjt. W. McGowan, Leins. R.: "For conspicuous gallantry in preparing, laying, and firing successfully Bangalore torpedoes in the enemies wire, in order to prepare exits for raiding parties, the whole operations being performed under heavy machine-gun fire."
