Fred Borgmann Posted February 25, 2019 Share #1 Posted February 25, 2019 Swiss Military Dependents Relief Fund Donation Medals When the Swiss mobilized their army to protect their borders during WWI the drain of man power from the Swiss economy left the dependent families of the military in dire straits. As a result a national effort to raise relief funds by donation was established. The four year long effort resulted in an oval silver medal awarded to those who donated and is often mistaken as a military medal. The silver medals are marked .800 fine, 33.5 x 29.3 mm in size and come looped or pin backed. The medals are signed Hans Frei who is well known to Swiss medal collectors.
