josephc Posted March 14, 2020 #1 Posted March 14, 2020 I purchased this helmet at an antiques store. the shell appears good, the liner a reproduction. The star i have been told a reproduction. I would like to post here for comments. Is there a source to show what an authentic star should like like?
St.Lukas Posted March 14, 2020 #6 Posted March 14, 2020 I agree that star & liner are both reproductions. Check stickies on WAF Japanese boards & here http://www.warrelics.eu/forum/japanese-militaria/evolution-japanese-army-steel-helmet-1918-1945-revised-expanded-version-589930/ Original stars are contoured to helmet shell/ rounded to fit profile. Fakes are flat. Paint & condition of stars should match helmet shell color as well.
shemp h. Posted March 14, 2020 #7 Posted March 14, 2020 I agree with St.Lukas, both are fake. The white kanji character painted on the rear skirt on the inside is the kanji for size large. Bill
shemp h. Posted March 14, 2020 #8 Posted March 14, 2020 Almost forgot, the liner is in backwards. Bill
josephc Posted March 14, 2020 Author #9 Posted March 14, 2020 I did find and save a picture from an ebay listing for a wallet that a soldier/marine applied "captured" stars to. maybe can use this as a reference to original star characteristics.
CSXRAILFAN Posted February 10, 2021 #10 Posted February 10, 2021 Wow, that wallet is awesome. Wonder what that went for?
