Tonomachi Posted October 29, 2018 Share #1 Posted October 29, 2018 I just saw this and wanted to warn the membership that this is not an original WW2 Japanese paratrooper wing as advertised as the seller is mistaken. Based on the purplish paper backing I would guess this copy was made in Pakistan. https://www.ebay.com/itm/RARE-GENUINE-WW2-JAPANESE-PARATROOPER-WINGS/202484162374?hash=item2f24ff1f46:g:OO8AAOSwORxb1fa-:rk:1:pf:1&frcectupt=true
Eric Queen Posted November 1, 2018 Share #2 Posted November 1, 2018 Hard to believe someone is bidding on it (unless it's a shill bid). I have the same one I paid $10 for. I used it in my article as an example of one of the many fakes.
Tonomachi Posted November 4, 2018 Author Share #3 Posted November 4, 2018 There were 31 bids between three bidders with a final selling price of $886.00. Someone is going to be real disappointing when they find out that they paid this much money for a copy.
Eric Queen Posted November 10, 2018 Share #4 Posted November 10, 2018 Ouch !! That hurts but you know what they say about learn first then buy. Not always an easy lesson.
Tonomachi Posted May 12, 2019 Author Share #5 Posted May 12, 2019 Another one of these fake WW2 Japanese paratrooper wings is for sale on eBay with a staring bid of $750.00.. https://www.ebay.com/itm/RARE-WW2-JAPANESE-PARATROOPER-WINGS/323802625451?hash=item4b6423f5ab:g:99IAAOSwaplc1L~7&frcectupt=true
Spaff Posted May 12, 2019 Share #6 Posted May 12, 2019 They must be shill bids. Who would pay that kind of money without at least some research. Of course, some people have more money than brains.
Thor996 Posted May 12, 2019 Share #7 Posted May 12, 2019 Are the copies Pakistani made?
Eric Queen Posted May 12, 2019 Share #8 Posted May 12, 2019 This particular one looks Pakistani made to me. What's even more interesting is the "reference" material provided by the seller. Who is James Lansdale?
Rod Posted May 13, 2019 Share #9 Posted May 13, 2019 What's even more interesting is the "reference" material provided by the seller. Who is James Lansdale? Jim Lansdale was a moderator on the J-aircraft forum and by all accounts an outstanding individual who passed in 2018. I purchased the complete set of Japanese Monographs on compact disc from him a few years ago, he was absolutely terrific to deal with. http://www.j-aircraft.org/smf/index.php?topic=17785.
Eric Queen Posted May 13, 2019 Share #10 Posted May 13, 2019 Thanks Rod. Had never heard of him. I wonder what he based his conclusions on regarding originality of the badges.
Rod Posted May 16, 2019 Share #11 Posted May 16, 2019 Sorry Eric, wish I could help with that but have no idea.
