Tonomachi Posted October 29, 2018 Share #1 Posted October 29, 2018 I picked this up at of all places an antique store in Northern California. I didn't know much about it until a collector in Finland by the first name of Miikka helped me out on the identification. This is a M/36 tunic issued during WW2. It is of the cavalry branch based on the collar tabs of yellow with red borders. The rank is 2nd lieutenant and the lion devices on the epaulets is a pre 1941 insignia for active/commissioned officers. So it was soldiers wearing uniforms like this that held off the great Soviet Army when they invaded Finland in 1939.

Tonomachi Posted October 29, 2018 Author Share #7 Posted October 29, 2018 Miikka identified the inner stenciling as: Stamp “VPu” is manufacturer “Valtion Pukutehdas” ie governments own manufacturer. Stamp “Int. 42” means it was made/accepted to stocks in 1942 Stamp “48 C” is size Stamp “M” in circle means it was removed from army stocks (after the war reservists got their uniforms home). Skysoldier80 Posted April 26, 2019 Share #12 Posted April 26, 2019 Now that is rare. A month ago, I missed on a chance of getting a Finnish Infantry and Mountain Uniform groupings. You definitely need to keep that one.
