Bill_Carman Posted November 20, 2018 Share #1 Posted November 20, 2018 This HSAT Mark II, made by Christie & Co. Ltd., does look a little rough based on the exterior paint job; looking like it was textured with a straw whisk broom. There is also residual masking tape on the front of the helmet, more than likely from when the owner went through his paratroop course. Nicely stamped on the head band C.C.L.- 7 1/2 - 1956 and the paratrooper's name: Major R. H. Oliver 'B' Coy 17 Para. According to the British Army Listing 1961, R. H. Oliver was an officer in the Territorial Army ( TA -active duty volunteer reserve) of the 17th Battalion, Parachute Regiment. I have not been able to locate any additional information on Major Oliver. The 17th (Durham Light Infantry) Parachute Battalion (TA), was originally created in 1947 from the 9th Battalion Durham Light Infantry. served in the 6th Parachute Brigade, 16th Airborne Division. Defense cuts in 1967 saw the battalion being amalgamated with the 12th/13th Parachute Battalion. Thanks for looking. Link to comment
