jangle Posted February 14, 2019 Share #17 Posted February 14, 2019 25th series, Kokura Arsenal. Gotta love that chatter on the stock! Nice example.
tthen Posted February 14, 2019 Share #18 Posted February 14, 2019 Very nice, I remember when I was a kid and my dad took me to a local gun store in Chicago and there was a rack of the last ditch rifles for $6.00 apiece!
jangle Posted February 14, 2019 Share #19 Posted February 14, 2019 Upon looking at your photos again this morning a little closer, I noticed that your bayonet is a rework. It was originally made as a early hook crossguard type bayonet, but at some point the hook had been damaged and sent back in to the Kokura Arsenal where the crossguard was straightened and the hook portion cut off. 100% correct and a legitimate variation. tanks1921 Posted February 14, 2019 Author Share #20 Posted February 14, 2019 Thanks everyone, I learned something about both the rifle and bayonet.
BrianD Posted February 15, 2019 Share #21 Posted February 15, 2019 Very nice rifle and bayo set. Had one that I sold off several years ago in about the exact same condition as the one that you posted. Wish now I had hung onto it but needed the $ at the time and that was one of my non-US items sacrificed at the time. Nice last ditch!
tanks1921 Posted February 15, 2019 Author Share #22 Posted February 15, 2019 Forgot to mention that the bolt is stamped under the handle with the last 3 digits of the rifle serial number (lightly), and as crappy as it looks on the exterior, the bore is in quite good condition. I still do NOT plan on shooting it.
Brian Keith Posted February 16, 2019 Share #23 Posted February 16, 2019 Very uncommon to find a last ditch with an intact Mum! Great rifle! Thanks for posting it. BKW
sundance Posted February 16, 2019 Share #24 Posted February 16, 2019 Very nice. They were rough weren't they? Would the plum bolt knob mean it's not the original or just that the maker still had them in stock?
