mds308 Posted June 26, 2019 Share #1 Posted June 26, 2019 Trying to help a friend ID a WWII bring back. These are the only pictures I have. The scabbard is wood, the Tsuba is missing and the blade is in OK condition. Can anybody tell me about the markings on its tang? Thanks.

SARGE Posted June 26, 2019 Share #3 Posted June 26, 2019 Your sword is typical of a wartime blade, made in 1943, that is now in a plain wooden storage case. Not a traditional, or old, blade and if the wooden case is simply unfinished plain-Jane wood the blade was put into storage and the mountings removed. I hope this helps. mds308 Posted June 26, 2019 Author Share #4 Posted June 26, 2019 Thanks to both. A huge help. I was going to make an offer but now if I do, my price will be very low.

stratasfan Posted June 27, 2019 Share #6 Posted June 27, 2019 Love seeing what the guys brought back as souvenirs! Should have seen our G-Uncle's basement! He was in the ETO, but it looked like you were marching into a supply depot in Berlin! -grin-
