Japanese Flag... assuming soldier made souvenir?

I found this at the fleamarket recently. Really thin silk like material. Not sure if its just gibberish or actual writing... dated 44-45. Assuming something made for the troops? Thoughts?

Yeah... me either. My guess is that some enterprising soldier or sailer was painting these up and selling to occupation troops.

Think so. These really badly done katakana seem to be gibberish and the ??? are questionable (pun intended).

Ingurando

Furanosu

It is what it is.

I think I am going to respectfully disagree with Rod on this one. To me, and just my opinion, the characters on this flag were written by a Japanese.

I think it is something the vet either had custom made for himself or possibly was a gift.

His name seems to be in the center

The others seem to be place names. Perhaps the guy got around a lot. Merchant Marine?

France

Scotland

パナマ = Panama

England

Wales

Belgium

日本 = Japan, etc.

Interesting theory Dave but I took the question marks to mean "where to next?"

We will never know for sure.
