Marcus Cooper Posted September 28, 2020 #1 Posted September 28, 2020 Hello all, Any ideas on this Spanish cross, please. The numbers on the pin are 2841. Could this be a WW2 copy for the recipient after losing the original? Your thoughts would be most appreciated. Thanks for your time.
SARGE Posted October 1, 2020 #2 Posted October 1, 2020 Marcus, I will give it a try to tell you what I see with your Spanish Cross. First, I have never seen a four digit number on a pin marking like this before. Second. the loose fit of the bottle shaped pin in the hinge also bothers me. Third, I can't tell if the eagles are soldered in or a part of the casting but the odd scraped/scratched finish on the back bothers me as well. Frankly, the scratch marks seem to be an amateurish attempt to cover up bubbles caused by the casting process from what I can see. I am not a fan of your cross since if I can see three red flags it is three strikes and you are out with me. Perhaps others can see something different.
Marcus Cooper Posted October 2, 2020 Author #3 Posted October 2, 2020 Thanks very much for your opinion. It is most helpful. I do still think that it may be a private recipient replacement for a lost award. But thanks anyway.
