24thinfantry Posted December 10, 2020 #1 Posted December 10, 2020 A gentleman has this jacket which he claims is an original WWII Kriegsmarine overcoat. The tag inside reads SchmidtReinhardt. The buttons appear to be the pebbled type used on German uniforms but I do not know much about Third Reich uniforms. I was wondering if this overcoat is original or a reproduction. The guy wants $100. I would greatly appreciate any help. I don't want to make a stupid mistake by being swindled if its fake. Thanks again for all the help!
SARGE Posted December 10, 2020 #2 Posted December 10, 2020 I think this is a postwar Police leather jacket. It looks like an oval department patch might have been removed from the left shoulder in your photo.
24thinfantry Posted December 10, 2020 Author #3 Posted December 10, 2020 Thanks Sarge! I had a feeling it was too good to be true. Now you mention it I can definitely see it being police.
Jeff V. Posted December 10, 2020 #4 Posted December 10, 2020 Agreed, not WW2. Also a Kriegsmarine jacket will often have and eagle M stamped into the leather flap between the buttons on the inside.
patches Posted December 11, 2020 #5 Posted December 11, 2020 And Yellow Anchor Buttons, if not Field Grey/Grey painted Anchor Buttons. Do believe only the Black single breasted U-Boot versions acquired by the SS Troops of the 1st and 12th SS Panzer Divisions switched out the anchor buttons for Silver Pebbled Buttons.
