MattS Posted July 1, 2021 Share #1 Posted July 1, 2021 My mom’s uncle served in the 6th armored division and fought across Europe. Family history has it that he pulled this banner out of a German vehicle tank that was destroyed. It is single sided, measures 38” by 28”, and has grommets on all 4 corners. Is this a vehicle identification flag? Thanks!
daskrieg Posted July 1, 2021 Share #2 Posted July 1, 2021 Yes it is. It would have been tied to the vehicle so aircraft would be able to id it as a friendly. Or in the case of the Allies an enemy...

Custermen Posted December 4, 2021 Share #6 Posted December 4, 2021 This is the Banner my Dad brought home. I call it a banner as I assume it was hung on the wall. It measures approximately 50 X 38 INCHES. It is really thin material. The first image posted just looks like thicker cotton but I can't tell. Would this one be used on a vehicle? I always wondered if that was blood stains on it. Picture of his banner taken on May 10, 1945. near Bulluno, Italy. Yes---he is wearing a Police Helmet with a chicken sitting on top. The other guys are the drunk ones.
SARGE Posted December 5, 2021 Share #7 Posted December 5, 2021 If your flag has metal grommets in each of the four corners it too is a vehicle recognition flag / banner.
