Tonomachi Posted July 6, 2021 Share #1 Posted July 6, 2021 I found this at the flea market yesterday. I'm guessing it was pinned to the shoulder of a dress uniform to indicate country of service. Based on the rear pin it looks like it was manufactured in the UK. It measures a little over 2 inches across and 5/8 inches wide. Anyone knows anything about this and is it a wartime piece of a post war piece?
earlymb Posted July 6, 2021 Share #2 Posted July 6, 2021 My guess is it's Australian made 1942-45, could have been worn up to 1950. You are correct that it's intended to be worn on the dress uniform. This unidentified but highly decorated (Vliegerkruis among others) ML-KNIL Onderluitenant ('sub-lieutenant') wears the fabric version on his US-made dress jacket: Nice find, I have been after one for a while but no luck yet. Hermann Posted July 6, 2021 Share #3 Posted July 6, 2021 earlymb is right on the ball. In June 1950 the KNIL (Dutch East Indies Army) was disbanded and the wearing of this emblem stopped. Nice find. Regards Herman
