LE LOUP DES MERS Posted September 15, 2021 Share #1 Posted September 15, 2021 I have a Soviet Winter airborne uniform from the 70s to 80s with the rank private, as well as the pants. My question is, what is this uniform called and what war would this have fought in? To my knowledge this is the winter airborne uniform that would have been worn in Afghanistan but I could be wrong. I tried looking it up online but can't find a match and my last question would thier be blue collar airborne things on the collar to my understanding some uniforms had the collar thing and others didn't. (Sorry can't remember the name of the collar things at the moment)

motorhate Posted November 9, 2022 Share #3 Posted November 9, 2022 I actually used to have one of these. It's called an Afghanka (Russian: Афганка) but was officially called the M88. It was actually first issued in the 1980s and usually has a blue collar made from what is known as "fish fur" (artificial fur). Officers would have a real fur collar on them. There was usually no collar insignia worn with these. They're still worn today in some post-Soviet states.
