T BIRD Posted April 24, 2023 Share #1 Posted April 24, 2023 FOR YOUR VIEWING PLEASURE I PRESENT A BRITISH CONTRACT 1911 THAT WAS ADOPTER AT THE START OF WW1. MAINLY BECAUSE PRODUCTION OF THE WEBLEY AUTO LOADER WAS NOT ENOUGH TO MEET REQUIREMENTS. THOUGH THERE WERE COLT 45"s IN USE AT THE TIME THE ADOPTED M1911 COLT WOULD BE IN cal.455 SINCE THE AMMO WAS ALREADY AVAILABLE. BECAUSE THE .455 WAS A SEMI RIMMED CARTRIDGE IT IS NOT FUNCTIONAL IN THE COLT cal.45. BEST; T BIRD Link to comment
Carrabassett Posted April 24, 2023 Share #2 Posted April 24, 2023 Wow, really a neat pistol! I’ve never seen one before, great piece of history! Thanks for sharing! Link to comment

SARGE Posted April 25, 2023 Share #4 Posted April 25, 2023 Congratulations on a very nice contract Colt. I particularly like the proper matching magazine. I presume the holster is a private purchase or armorer made one? Link to comment
T BIRD Posted April 25, 2023 Author Share #5 Posted April 25, 2023 HI SARGE; THANK YOU, I WAS GLAD TO FIND IT, SINCE A COLT M1911 WAS ON THE LIST OF "MUST ACQUIRE" ITEMS. THE HOLSTER AS YOU SAY IS A PRIVATE PURCHASE OR ARMORER MADE ONE. BY ALL APPEARANCES IS ORIGINAL TO THE PISTOL.. IT'S CLOSURE SNAP IS OF THE "LIFT THE DOT" VARIETY. THANK'S AGAIN; T BIRD Link to comment
dcollector Posted May 10, 2023 Share #6 Posted May 10, 2023 A rare bird, very nice, really a cool one for the collection. Now you have the joy of tracking down the extraordinarily expensive .455 MKII ammo. Thanks for sharing! Link to comment

A box of 1943 .45acp with a my wartime Colt 1911A1 (Colt factory.) Wartime .45acp is easier to find than .455 MKII - though the Canadian and British cartons with the green ink are around.
