Scott C. Posted July 22, 2023 Share #1 Posted July 22, 2023 Thought I'd share my DDR pilot wings, earliest (bottom) to latest (top). All are unmarked, except for the screw disks of the earliest example. I believe there was an even earlier version that was a wreath surrounding a four-bladed propeller (like the hat device only larger), but I could be wrong. Mr. Bushido Posted July 22, 2023 Share #2 Posted July 22, 2023 Thank you for sharing the photo. I believe the insignia you mentioned is of the type shown in this photo. *The image quality is bad because I took a picture of the material I copied a long time ago. Scott C. Posted July 22, 2023 Author Share #3 Posted July 22, 2023 I found it: per Military Pilot & Aircrew Badges of the World, Volume 1 (1870-Present) by Don Chalif, the first pattern DDR Pilot Badge (1956-1959) is shown below. Mr. Bushido, the same reference says your insignia is for 'Technical Engineer, Non-Rated' authorized in 1963.
Mr. Bushido Posted July 23, 2023 Share #4 Posted July 23, 2023 Thank you for correcting my post. I think the note in the reference I have is wrong. That should be it, the insignia has a gear-like design. I didn't notice that the "hat device" you pointed out was pointing upwards, and I mistook it for the downwards.
