Help with British Lee Enfield?

TP1953

Recommended Posts

Hello, I am trying to get this rifle through an auction, and I wanted to see if you guys could tell me anything about it, like maker or value and such. It is listed as an #4 MK1. Anything would about help. It is currently at $100, and I would like to know if that is a fair price or not. These are all the photos I have. Thank you

hello,

I do not specialize in these.  However, I am linked to one.  A close friend gave me one about 30 years ago.  It was his uncle's.  It was a GI bring back from WWII.  It had been in the family since around 1950.  Apparently, it was a traded item from the original GI.

The new owners 'sportarized' it and was used for hunting.  The stock had been cut and shaped.  It was missing all the wood trim and extra fittings.  It was missing the clip too.

About 3 years ago I asked a professional gun enthusiast to 'restore' it.  Mine was dated 1943 as well.

Strangely original period clips are scarce and fairly expensive.  I looked around and the cheapest I could find was $50 just for a clip.  And that was after much searching.

I ended up paying about $350 in restoration parts for a rifle I got for free.  Mine will never be a collector grade rifle, more of a shooter or for someone who likes the story.

I would value mine at around $500.  It is a working, WWII rifle that displays okay.

The one posted has import marks which will hurt the value.

But I would guess the posted rifle is worth also +- $500.  Others with more knowledge may chime in.  I know a loose stock for this rifle is usually around $200.

But assuming the clip is period, there is $250 here in just the stock and clip.  I hope this helps. This is just my opinion for someone who had one restored.  Good luck in acquiring it for a good price.  cheers!

Thank you, that's nice to hear, I would also like this one to be a one in a while shooter/wall hanger, but my main concern/curiosity is the marking. I haven't been able to find anything like like the manufacturer or anything like that, and that is important to me, as the bid is now at 160, with me in the lead. But they also have an RFI Mark 3 going for $80, but with 1951 markings, so I will have to see if I can get any more information.
