I’ll jump at the obvious, a makers mark?

Who I don’t know.

The makers mark on the back of the button. A backmark is what it's sometimes called. Helps verify the age.

Could be PS or RS now that I look at it ...

RS could be Souval.

Rudolf Souval is R.S. Maybe. Here's a pin with an R.S. mark. https://www.emedals.com/products/germany-wehrmacht-general-assault-badge-by-rudolf-souval-g47360

I found this: Rudolf Souval was born in 1819. His workshop was based in Straße der Julikämpfer 23 in Vienna. Souval died in 1899 and the firm was taken over by Mr. Ludwig Umlauf and his wife who continued to produce awards under the Souval name. The company remained active after the end of the Second World War. https://www.medalbook.com/makers/rudolf-souval
