I wasn't sure where to post this since I'm not exactly sure what I have. Anyways I found these ties at a trift store probably 2 years ago and just remembered that I had them. The store had a bunch of ties like this that had labels attached like this, I researched them enough to have a basic understanding of what they are. the thing is I could not find a match to these or any of the other ties that were there that I took pictures of. So what are these? And why might they be labeled like this? -

Thank you for your input Leigh. I was thinking along the same lines as you. Before getting your message I tried well aersoled water. Certainly didn't expect it to work as well & fast as it did. One of the worst areas of the flag cleaned up the best (pics). My next challenge will to get just enough pressure from the back to hold the flag to the class before turning to to more involved solutions. While I do have archival back board the glass us not UV, this shouldnt be a problem since it's not near windows -

I was away from my PC so I couldn´t answer your question earlier. Depicted is an early West German Bundeswehr "Regenmantel" (raincoat) produced in 1959. These coats were worn by all ranks. They were replaced by a new coat in the 1980´s. Hope this helps. -

I would use very low heat on an iron and some steam, but I would let the steam seep through a towel or other type of cloth to form a barrier between the flag and the direct heat. Don't use too high a temperature but looking at the material it looks not to be silk but more of a cotton cloth so you will be alright. Framing wise I would also place this on an acid free matte and use archival plexi for the cover. Leigh -
