Appreciate the time taken to help me get up to speed on Type 90 helmets & the research done regarding Dan Griffin. I'm still looking for a helmet & am getting better at separating the the good from the bad. While looking through Griffin's site I saw a few Yosegaki Hinomaru which were nice & this one which I bought. It has a named flag, a soldiers booklet also named to the flag, an armband (Staff Cook) and recruitment sash (Military Personnel).  The flag has holes at each of the corners, spilled inkspots & some redish brown stains (origin unknown).

Two shots of an Unknown Heer RK Holder of an unknown division, a Sergeant, wearing a SS Camo Tunic, in Poland in the summer of 44 I think.

Not a mystery at all. The NSKK used black scabbards. Other than that, same dagger was used by both organizations.

Hi all, I have a question about this dagger my uncle gave me long ago. Is it an SA dagger? The reason I ask is because the scabbard is black and I thought it should be brown. Any help solving this mystery for me is appreciated.  Thanks Mark

For what its worth, I too like the looks of the helmet. The liner looks undiddled with (except for the string) I can't speak to the extra paint as I can't really see it, but I will say sometimes in person paint seems "under" until you look at it with a loop and it is "over". If it was repainted, I would also expect to see it on top where the abrasions wold have uncovered some of it as well.  I collect helmets, but they have to "speak to me" and if they don't I pass. There will always be more - especially a LW M40, but in the end you are the one that needs to be comfortable with it.

Perhaps you see something in hand that I don't see in the pics but the helmet looks good to me from what is shown. You are aware that the Germans used many colors correct, and that it may have been over painted more than once.           You asked for thoughts and comments and some were given, at the end of the day you decided to pass which is totally fine. I think many here, myself included, would just look at the helmet and decide what to do, not rely on the opinions of others as we are confident in our own knowledge or skills. Doesn't mean were perfect, just that you may not be getting the answers you want because for most its not an issue to opine on. We would either buy it or not based on what we see and know.            Maybe you made a good decision in not buying it, maybe not. Either way, you are the one who needs to be happy.   Scott

I lived in PA for 30 years. Pennsylvania was very very good to me.       Sorry to hear that.

Correct- in PA I go to 2 flea markets pretty much every Sunday from end of April to end of September. Last year my only finds were a brass covered shield bible, arisaka bayonet, wooden .50 ammo box, Japanese officer canteen and saki cups, an HJ ceramic tinnie and US folding shovel from ww2. Those were the deals and it was my best year. Normally I get 1-2 good finds a year. Once in a while there will be some hot shot with a garand bayonet and German helmet and think they have the best table but want top dollar.
