He looks like a Hauptfeldwebel“Spieß” to me.   At least he has a "Kolbenringe" up his sleeve.

The ones you got are Weimar Era Reichsmarine Buttons as it has that rather plain Eagle stamp ie not a NSDAP Eagle. The WWI Pre WWI had the Imperial Crown above the Anchor on the front, this feature was dropped after the war when the Navy was allowed to reform in the 20s,  albeit drastically reduced.   The Eagle marking  I think starts to be used then, the  Kriegsmarine Buttons  when they are proclaimed from 1935 or so on, didn't have this Eagle  marking anymore as far as we can see. Though with out a doubt these Weimar ones continued to be worn during the 30s well into WWII as stocks permitted as they have the same front design as the newly made ones of the TR period   Here's another example, albeit a different style, with the Eagle more defined, I think its for a Peacoat???.

Unfortunately they were glued to a cardboard for display.  i don't want to do any damage trying to get it off.   I'm pretty confident there legit. They were from a family friend.  Being a noobie to this collecting thing. Its nice to have sources willing to help out and share there knowledge.  A lot of people are in the business of scamming you.  I almost bought a helmet that was being passed off as an SS Helmet.  I sent some pic's to someone I found on the internet that collects Helmets and he sent me this.  "This is an M57 West German border guard helmet. Devised in the mid 1950s to resemble the WW2 M40 helmet. Used by Grenzschutz ("Border defense") personel as late as the 1970s. Somebody painted this one black and stuck awful reproduction decals on it."  So thank you for your Help. Its very appreciated.   Hopefully i can pay it forward down the road. .     Jason

I have no idea where I got this. Would have been around 2016 when I started my German WWII phase. Might have been generously included with a purchase. I’m curious to know how common these “tea” towels are?
