back in the 1980's I remember ads in Shotgun News for these DDR East German helmets they use to cost over $200 each and use to be rare in the USA -

The front of the coin, which was presented for excellent staff duty, shows the insignia of 2nd German Army Corps. The Corps existed from 1956 to 1993. As far as I could find out Brigade general Rudolf Wich was the Chief of Staff from 1967 to 1971. It could match the signature. Hope this helps to date this very nice coin. -
