Hello everyone! Sorry for the delay in updating, but we really wanted to get some research done on the ring before moving forward. The wonderful Robert McDivitt delved into the archives in D.C. last month and sent me over (50) pages of research, which will all go to the new owner when the ring when sold. It was also authenticated by D. Boyle through the auction house. Thanks to everyone who offered suggestions throughout this process--we started at zero and learned so much along the way! The ring and presentation box will be auctioned through Ratisbon's in April. For details, click here, and thanks again! https://www.ratisbons.com/11th-usa-auction/ss-honor-ring-with-partial-case-ss-sturmbannfuehrer-helmut-giesselmann.html -

I'm not liking that, particularly the clasp: if it is genuine, then the clasp is a later replacement. Best Mike -

Confirming these are WW2 Army collar tabs. I've seen a yellow stripe through the center, but not a green/olive. -

This first pictures Looks Like It Would Carry Something, It has a curved metal handle and buckles with teeth at the ends. Made out of cotton webbing. The next one I'm not sure about? It has an opening on one side the length of it, the other side is closed, it has black metal oval slots? Thanks -

An unexpected find! This is a Derg-era patch for the Ethiopian 22nd Mountain Division. It was formed in 1981 and suffered an estimated total of 1500 dead, wounded and prisoners when the Eritrean People's Liberation Front attacked the Nadew Command in December 1987. It was so bad that the division was withdrawn from the northern front and moved to Keren. The Nadew Command CO, General Brigadier Tariku Ayne, was relieved of his position under direct orders of Mengistu and then arrested and sentenced to death on February 15th 1988. This was the prelude to the battle of Afabet, one of the most important to take place in Africa since WW2, during which the Ethiopian Army was routed by the EPLF with 8,000-9,000 dead or missing and 5,000 prisoners. The Derg eventually collapsed in 1991.
