The plain tree pattern as mentioned earlier is a drawing based on nature and please excuse the pun but it’s plain to see here from above the emulation of the tree bark here

Great stuff, I never knew there were so many variations. This is terrific reference. Thanks for posting the photos.

Spectacular. rare and important. I can at last say that I have seen originals. Collected helmets for years and have never seen one.
