1st pattern WW2 No 1 Commando with scroll. "A green and black salamander passing through red and yellow flames" ..the allusion to Commandos "living in fire"... this design was later replaced by the better known red on black Combined Ops sign with matching red on black No 1 Commando scroll.

 

 

2nd pattern No 1 Commando. This particular set is belonged too a U.S. Soldier from Minnesota that served with the unit during the landings in North Africa.

 

With the new discussion regarding formation signs, that I would bring this back up.

Original No. 1 Commando 1st pattern shoulder title and salamander belonging to Maurice Brown. Maurice was one of the Americans attached to No.1 Commando during Operation Torch.
