I recently started looking for pieces identified to soldiers serving in Africa during the 1950s and 1960s as the British Empire dwindled on the continent. I found this rather interesting uniform very recently and traced it based on the name and with the amount of information available decided it was a wise purchase even if I didn't need it.

 

Major Terence Percy Shaw served during the Second World War with the Lancashire Fusiliers - which battalion I do not know yet, but based on his ribbons did see action in Northwest Europe. What has fascinated me is his post-war service in Egypt and Kenya as second in command of A Company, 1st LF. This company was the first called up to police the riots in Ismailia in October 1951 after the Egyptians abrogated their 1936 treaty with Britain. It is a small action, but covered in great detail on the LF website. After their duty in the Canal Zone, the 1st LF then became the first British unit to move into Kenya to fight the Mau Mau Rebellion. This was almost exactly one year after the Ismailia event. I have much more to learn about him and the 1st Lancs, but I am happy to care for his uniform and story.

 

 

 

Cool jacket! I found that he was born in 1914 and died in 1988.

 

In June 1952, he was a Major in the Lancashire Fuliliers and his service number was 56165.

 

In June 1933 he was with the 8th Bn Lan. Fus. (late Cadet, Malvern Coll. Contgt., Jun. Div., O.T.C.) to be 2nd Lt. 4th June 1933.

 

In 1952, he was made an MBE.

Thanks for the info Elizabeth. It does not seem that he was ever 'seconded' to another regiment and I can only guess at the moment that his WWII service was also with the Lancs. Thanks for confirming his death date as well. I believe his service file should be releasable from the MoD since he passed 25+ years ago.
