November 4, 20187 yr #1 I got this Ordnance insignia along the way, and was told it was British. However, when surfing for images, the flames don't seem quite right for England. A little more like British South Africa, but the scroll usually has something about SA on it. Any thoughts? I am thinking around the WWII era, but not sure. This is the first British thing I got, so this is new to me!
November 5, 20187 yr #2 Elizabeth, You're not going to believe this, but your insignia is NOT Ordnance. I don't have my references close at hand, but it is either British Royal Artillery or British Royal Engineers. The insignia is a collar device, called "collar dogs" in the British Army. The difference between artillery and engineer is the number of flames on the ball. I'd imagine that you can probably locate the info based on this lead. Allan
November 5, 20187 yr Author #3 What! Now . . . why do they go and confuse beginners like that. A bomb insignia is supposed to mean ordnance! Right? . . . -big sigh- Well, I guess that is why the flames didn't look right. From a quick search, I think you are going to be spot on with Royal Engineers. Hope someone who can be positive finds this. Oh, that is pretty cool. I suppose I'd prefer having an Engineers collar dog than Ordnance. Actually, I don't really know what Ordnance is . . . should go do some reading up. Thanks so much, Allan! You are always a gold mine of information! Also, if a Mod sees this, please change the title!
November 5, 20187 yr #4 Yes, Royal Engineers, per British Army Collar Badges, by Churchill and Westlake. The extra two flames in front make it Engineers, without them, Artillery.
November 8, 20187 yr #5 Also, if a Mod sees this, please change the title! Done. Here's the Royal Artillery collar badge for comparison.

P.S.: The flaming bomb is commonly used as insignia by many nation's artillery, including former German Imperial Field Artillery. Attached a picture of some examples of different nation's Artillery patches with variations of the flaming bomb. P.P.S.: Sorry, I didn't wanted to hijack your topic!
