Wolves at the Door, by J. Pearson (Story of SOE's Virginia Hall)

To offset my negative review, here is a very positive review of a newer book. Judith Pearson's "Wolves at the Door". The story of Virginia Hall, the American lady who became one of the leading SOE operatives in Occupied France.

After losing a leg in a hunting accident, you wouldn't guess that you would become a secret agent in an overrun country, would you? Well, Virginia Hall's story reads like a Hollywood film. This remarkable lady went on to work in the CIA in the post-war years. What a story! She was on the Nazi's wanted list of agents, and had many close escapes. She even managed to do the long, tedious hike over the mountains into Spain, never telling the guide that she had a prosthetic leg.

This is definitely a good read! Bogs down every now and then with some overall WWII history that is a bit basic compared to the rest of the book, but all-in-all a very good book! For anyone interested in the SOE or French Resistance, or ladies in WWII, or secret agents, etc. . . . this is a good choice for an exciting weekend!
