Not sure about era. I don't know enough about the headdress types/styles over time for the British Army. Could be WWII, just not sure. Badges and buttons are a bit easier to age, headdress not so much (at least for me).

The tartan backing was also worn by the Seaforth Highlanders, however this tam dates from much later than ww2, anywhere from the 60s to the 90s, so was used by the KOSB.

When I served in Saudi Arabia during Desert Shield and Desert Storm, I had multiple opportunities to work with the KOSB's. The only traditional caps that I saw them wear were the Glengarry caps. I wonder if the Seaforth Highlanders were more likely to wear the Tam as opposed to the Glengarry?

 

Are there any markings at all inside your tam? Is the tartan pierced for a badge?
