OK . . . For years I haven't been able to share these, but now I get to! My Sister is an archivist for a British House in Cornwall (not that she actually lives there, she lives here, but she has been working with the family of an old manor house at doing the extensive family genealogy and history. For six years now! Well, now that there is a world forum, I am finally able to share some of the cool swords that we've been researching.

 

This is not a family-used piece. Probably a souvenir or just bought as a collection item.

 

French, Sabre de Sapeu. Possibly from the Garde Imperiale. Most likely from the late Napoleonic era, post 1810.

The attached shows the description in Llhoste and Resek for this type of sword.
The blade (as with most sappers sabres) is normally serrated - see the photos. Not sure why this one isn't.
