November 17, 20187 yr #2 I've seen French Artillery Officer's button with the same crossed cannon and the flaming bomb above them. However, I've only seen French maker backs. Being that this is marked Philadelphia is different. For instance:
November 17, 20187 yr #3 I also know that the Turks made buttons in a similar pattern, copying the French, but the backs are typically in Turkish on those.
November 18, 20187 yr #4 The possible explanation is that during either WWI or II American makers made them as a wartime time thing, after 1917 in WWI we should think, maybe starting in 1940 in WWII.
