It certainly looks like a German troddel.

Yes, Mons1914 is quite right that this is a German Troddel. This form of knot is for a Wehrmacht NCO and appears to be an early example. This specific Troddel would have been worn by Army or Navy NCOs on their bayonet frogs. The Air force wore a very similar Faustriemen with a leather strap instead of a cloth strap like this knot. Early Weimar Republic period knots had silver plated balls and highlights on the crown, stem, and strap while later wartime examples typically had aluminum highlights.

 

You could properly put this knot on a Heer or Kriegsmarine S84/98 bayonet frog or on a short NCO example of a KS 98 bayonet. It would be incorrect on the longer KS 98 as this would take a colored unit specific Troddel for enlisted men.

Yes, this looks like a German WWII Heer NCO's Sword Knot it was used on NCO swords and bayonets. I think the sword knots on bayonets are so cool!
