A long time friend just found this one for me. Super image IMO.

Just picked up this beauty.

Here is a "Wehrdienst - Ehrendienst" photograph album for an Army (Heer) Feldgendarm. This NCO was a dog handler and there are several nice photos of his police dog "Rex" in the album. His dog served along side him on active service from 1943 to the end of the war in 1945. He even filled out an Urkunde for his service dog and included it in his remembrance album.

 

One has to wonder what happened to these police trained Service Dogs at the end of the war.

Glad you enjoyed these photos. Here are a few more from the album. It seems this Feldgendarmerie unit had two dogs but the album owner was the dog handler for the German Shepard named "Rex". I am not certain what breed the other dog shown is.

Thank you. Just super. That is a great piece. Interesting that the date on the Urkunde is the day after the Germans surrendered (which hopefully tells us that Rex survived the war)
