Here is a really well made Soviet cap badge; it is quite thick and heavy. My research indicates it is a model 1955.

    These were worn throughout the 1950s and 60s on NCOs and other rank's pilotka caps. With the introduction of the M1969 uniform, the badges were made of tin or other light metal to reduce cost.
