January 20, 20197 yr #1 Can someone please identify this coat of arms. This is on a lionhead sword with a pipeback blade. Thanks, Dick
January 20, 20197 yr #2 It looks like a variant of the coat of arms of the city of Hamburg. Jeff Floyd
January 22, 20197 yr #4 Good thought, but the fortress on the Hamburg arms (if memory serves) has a double-door instead of the bars, and the sword seems to be missing the two Stars of David that are above the two corner towers. Very cool. Anyway you have pics of the whole sword?
January 24, 20197 yr #5 Hard to say, there are so many coat of arms with 3 towers. I have attached the coa of Bratislava (former Pressburg) for example. Could it be the coa of a family as well? CivicHeraldry.com
January 25, 20197 yr #6 With the helmet on top of the shield it might well be a family coat of arms. Can we see pictures of the sword itself?
January 25, 20197 yr #7 There are several variants of this design, depending upon use. The use of the arms with escutcheons may indicate an official presentation from the city, or may just be the swordmaker's idea of appropriate embellishment. For examples with escutcheons, Google "coat of arms" and "Hamburg" for images of numerous variations.
