Ive had this blouse for many years. I dont remember where/when I got it. It is a zipper front blouse with RCAF pilot qualification badge and I think the rank is Flight Lieutenant, but it is a bit different than I could find published. The tag is washed out, but you can still see a 1944, likely a date, and the Canadian property mark. As far as I know it is WW II era legitimate.

Nice Jacket! It is absolutely wartime and the zippered front version is correct. I'll have to check, it's been a while, but I believe in the RCAF nomenclature this is referred to as a Type D or maybe E, Battledress. I just need to remember and dig out the reference. If I find it I'll get back to you. Scarce version, thanks for showing.

If you would like to see another example of a zippered front BD jacket, check out my recent thread, “RAF Ferry Command Uniform Flying Jacket “. Same construction as our RCAF Type D’s. The only difference I can see is on the Type D the waste tab is affixed with a button but the FC uses a buckle. Although the FC BD does not have a label it’s probably a good bet it was also made by Eaton as Ferry Command was headquartered in Canada.

The different colour of the rank braid is easily explained.   This was our work jacket, and presumably, this pilot could have been working as a transport pilot, where he was not required to wear a flight suit.  He would have spent a certain amount of time as a Flighing Officer, (one wide band), and when he got promoted to Flight Lieutenant (Captain) , he just had the other band sewn on all his uniforms.  The jacket, is definitely pre 1953, easily identified by the Kings wings.  Sometime after 1953, The wings were re designed to show the Queen's crown.
