Hi. I need some sage advice. My friend Frank attended the Mesa show on Saturday. He's a history buff and former submariner, but has little knowledge of militaria. He spotted and fell for a WWII German sub badge. He texted me about it and I urged extreme caution. He decided not to buy it for now and would like to learn more about telling real from fakes. Can anyone recommend any good websites to help him out? Unfortunately he did not take any photos. Thanks in advance for any help.

Spend some money on the books The Kriegsmarine Awards by Weber and Skora. Available by B & D Publishing in the United States. This book was originally written in german and was completely rewritten by John Robinson and Norm Franke for the English market. It is by far the best work on the market and anyone armed with this book will know real from fake on every Kriegsmarine award and the many different variants.
