HANNOVER THALER 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE BATTLE AT WATERLOO

This was in my father's coin collection and I am trying learn more about it. Was it presented to the veterans of the battle or was it something any one could buy to commemorate the victory at Waterloo? Is this considered a thaler? My understanding is that a thaler is a coin with value, but I don't see a value on the coin.

I've tried searching coin sites and the closest that I find has an image George V of Hannover but with the same wording on the reverse.

This is a bronze medal awarded by the city of Hannover to it's battle of Waterloo veterans who were still alive on the 50th anniversary of the battle in 1865. They must have been a healthy bunch since I have seen a fair number of these medals over the years. It is not a thaler coin which is silver and denominated.
