I picked this up real cheap at the flea market and was wondering if anyone recognizes it as to what item(s) were carried in this backpack. It has two horizontal straps that Velcro into a circle and two vertical wraps.

A sleeping bag seems to fit this configuration but I'm pretty sure something else was carried in this manner like maybe a several gallon can of water for the entire platoon? Any ideas?

As an Israeli infantryman (1986-1994) I do not recognize it. There must be something else in the way of markings, I'll be happy to translate if you should find one inside a flap, etc.

 

As for carrying a plastic jerrycan of water, ain't no way in hell that's what it's for, WAY too fragile for the job. Ask me how I know this...
