October 30, 20196 yr #1 There is a lot of headgear that falls under the 1979-89 Soviet 'Incursion into Afghanistan' time frame. I've collected some over the years and added a few more recently. This is one shelf of 8 pieces of headgear in my room; Motor Rifles NCO parade visor Afghanka field cap Afghan man's hat Soviet Air Force officer's everyday visor SSh-40 helmet Panamanka field cap Soviet tanker helmet SSh-68 steel helmet with KVS camo cover
October 31, 20196 yr Author #3 Thanks! The late Soviet-era visors are really cheaply made with plastic visors and straps.

November 4, 20196 yr Author #5 At least one of those hats came from a friend (major, special operations command, US Army) when he was stationed in Afghanistan. This was back in 03-04 and when I asked him what he was doing there, his answer was, "I can't say, but if we find him, I'll send you his hat."
