I found (and joined) this site trying to research this set.Real or not I am really attached to it.Been a little hesitant to post it for obvious reasons.Yes it is an ebay purchase and I bought it on a whim.I don't WW2 Pacific and indeed I bought it without due diligence because time was expiring on the auction.Now it won't burn me that bad paid $175 US for it.Can anyone give me info on what the writing on the box says?And o course opinions on originality?I am using the sellers photos and if more are required please ask.I am not a computer savy person and will add photos as my frustration level will allow.

I am no expert but agree with Bob that this set and box look 100% original to me. The piece is a commemoration of the Japanese-Russian war.

 

The main sentence is 往露凱旋記念 (ourou gaisen kinen) or literally "commemoration of the victorious return from the Russian campaign"

 

Presented by 南遊佑村奉公義会 (nanyuuyuumura houkougikai) "the (military) service council of southern Yuuyuumura" (can only assume that Yuuyuumura is a place name (mura = village) but I have never heard of it)

 

The piece is dated Meiji 39 (1906) which I believe was the year after the war ended.

 

The craftsman (who made it) was named 高倉 Takakura

"Presented to Army Infantry Private First Class Seizou (given name) Aso (Surname)"

 

Aso is also a city in Kumamoto prefecture.
