December 28, 20196 yr #1 Gents, This is a Warrant Officer winter uniform for a Japanese Military Policeman (kempeitai). His rank is shown as a Warrant Officer by his officer style collar tabs made without stars and the fact that he has no rank tape on his sleeve cuffs. His kempeitai association is shown by the police stars sewn on his collar and his armband. All the insignia is hand sewn on in typical Japanese fashion. The MP branch of service designation of the black "squiggle" over the right breast pocket was largely done away with during the war but the kempeitai armband continued to be worn. The wool uniform is tailor made and the interior of the tunic is quilted. As a matter of fact the tailor went to great lengths to sew the quilted interior of the tunic in a rising sun pattern to show the quality of his work. Upon close inspection you can see the tiny pieces of white cutter/stitching points the tailor placed on the liner to show the way for him to cut and stitch the tunic lining. This shows the great care taken to make this uniform. The breeches are also nicely made with a high waist and wide belt loops. There is a named laundry/owner mark in the breeches but it is faded and unreadable. A nice example of a wartime Japanese Officer uniform.

December 30, 20196 yr Author #4 Very nice uniform Sarge, does it have the opening at the top of the right shoulderfor an aiquillette Happy New Year Bill Thanks for the kudos Bill. And, yes it does have the little opening and pocket for the aiguillette on the top right shoulder. It also has the buttoned sword slit in the left hip skirt. It has the small buttons in the collar for the attachment of a celluloid collar as well. The khaki plastic buttons and the green cloth lining material matches in both the tunic and the breeches.
