I am helping an old friend (turned 85 recently) liquidate some of his 50 year collection. This buckle is steel and has the appearance of agem but I am not well versed in these. opinions as far as originality and perhaps ball park value would be appreciated. Thanks in advance to all the helpful individuals on this forum.

No offense to your friend, but I don’t like it.  
The back is pretty bad - the quality is just not there, and SS buckles did not have a leather tab.

I would concur.  The steel ones are usually marked RODO. there may be other makers.
