By adding a clasp fastener it has been converted into a sweetheart pin.

World War II Royal New Zealand Air Force Other ranks cap badge worn from late 1930s until crown changed mid 1950s. Pin back most likely given away as a sweetheart badge during W.W.II, or as a repair for broken lugs. Airmen wore Royal Flying Corps insignia during the First World War.
