I have the opportunity to purchase a Viet Cong Banner what do I need to look for to tell if it is original or reproduction

I do not have a photo yet, I was just told about it from a dealer last night. I have No further details at this time.

I am not quite sure what you mean by banner vs. flag.

 

But I can tell you this much... flags, banners, armbands etc. have all been heavily faked.

 

Some of the NLF (National Liberation Front, or VC) flags go so far as to use correct period cotton material, stitching, construction and dyes!

 

Some are pristine, and others are artificially aged by bleaching, staining and beating.

 

The attached photo is a friend of mine in the Saigon flea markets in 1995. Some of these are old enough that they look to have some age to them.

 

The irony is that public display of the NLF flag for a long time was discouraged, as it suggested a divided Vietnam. Exceptions were made for commemorative occaisions.

 

As far as a "bring back" flag or banner, you need some pretty solid evidence to buy the story.
