While "Splittertarn" camo uniforms were introduced in 1956 the shelter-halfs had a different camo called Amoebentarn-Muster (ameba camo pattern). When new OD shelter-halfs were introduced the ameba camo shelter-halfs were processed to helmet covers for airborne units.
