Nobody familiar with this marking?

 

Is this a WWI Helmet Ben? If so maybe it stands for the 16th Infantry Battalion Canadian Expeditionary Force.

Thanks but it's a WW2 era helmet. 1943 dated shell.

I hope you didn't purchase the helmet just for that painted marking!

Maybe Canadian 16th Scottish? But their patch was red on the bottom with a smaller blue square above.  The C 16 looks like the collar brass my grandfather wore in WWI. 

Are there any markings inside the helmet?
