Small 14 x 16 inch flag. Would someone translate the writing please.  Thanks for any info or information on this flag.  A friend told me they would attach this to their affixed bayonet, was that done with this style flag? Hopefully  I have the writing in the correct position. Thanks Ken

That's an odd little flag for a couple of reasons (to me)

 

* The writing is really poorly done. Not at all saying it is fake or not legitimate just looks like someone on deaths door wrote it. His name was 藤原 Fujihara (surname) 長三郎 Chouzaburou (given name) 

 

* Next to the name it says 七十九才 Nanajuukyuu Sai (79 years old) 

 

Perhaps he was one of the last ditch civilian volunteers defending the homeland? Perhaps the flag was made by his elderly wife with a shaky hand? Pure conjecture but possible. 

 

And at the far right of course in the most common patriotic slogan. 武運長久 = buunchoukyuu = "Continued luck in the fortunes of war"
